Everything has an essence, something that resides in the figurative center of the thing, which is it’s soul. Totems are the symbolic representation of that essence. The essence is real, the Totem is not. The Totem is like a photograph, an idea of the essence, which is rarely visual.
Totems exist for all things, such as the archaic elements, like water, fire, earth, and wind, and concepts, such as eternity. Totems exist for modern phenomena as well, such as the internet, and weaponry. There are Totems for love and for hate, for gold and for death, for everything. If the eyes are the windows to the soul, then a Totem is the soul’s photograph.
